The New VAT Rules

From January 1, 2026, the VAT rules for music and singing lessons will change.

In short:

  • Under 30 years: VAT-free.
  • Over 30 years: Subject to VAT, but with a tax deduction of DKK 1,750.
    • Exception: VAT-free if the lessons have a professional/vocational purpose. Read more below.

1. How It Appears in the Booking System

When you look at my prices or want to book lessons, you will encounter these settings. You can select them now:

Prices are shown based on your selections. Learn more here .

The prices on the site will then reflect your choices.

2. Deduction If You Pay VAT

If you have to pay VAT for the lessons, you can as a private individual from 2026 make use of a new tax deduction of DKK 1,750 and thus get some of the money back.

How do you use the deduction in practice?

  • You pay for the lessons with VAT.
  • You report the expense on your preliminary tax assessment (later annual tax return).
  • Remember to save your invoices.

See more details in the Danish Tax Agency’s fact sheet.

3. VAT-Free Lessons with Professional Purpose

Even if you are over 30 years old, the lessons can be VAT-free if they have a professional purpose - i.e., directly related to your income or education.

This may be relevant if:

  • you are a professional or semi-professional singer, musician, musical performer, actor
  • you work as a teacher, priest, lecturer, etc., where the voice is an important work tool
  • you are a student or want to apply for an education where singing/voice use is a clear part of the education

In these cases, you can find my course descriptions below to see if you fall under the criteria for professional instruction.
